Best Items For TFT Classes

Hey there! 👋 I’m Piotr, a seasoned TFT Coach 👈 and a Challenger Player.

In today’s article we will take a deep dive into the subject of itemization in Teamfight Tactics. Units will be divided by class and then sorted by cost, so you can see how to itemize (and whether it’s worth to do it) any unit in the game. Building the best TFT items is crucial to win the game!

Best items for TFT Brawler

MALPHITE

TFT Malphite is one of the Rebel / Brawler TFT classes, a unit for 1 cost. He’s a very tanky unit, as all his ability does is give him extra health, just like his traits – Rebels give him a shield, and brawler gives him extra health. Just a piece of meat. A meatshield!

What items for TFT Malphite?

  • Bramble Vest (Chain Vest + Chain Vest)
  • Warmog’s (Giant Belt + Giant Belt)
  • Dragon Claw (Negatron Cloak + Negatron Cloak)

Why these items for TFT Malphite?

Malphite is a unit that best utilizes items that work well with his traits and origin – so best TFT items would be bramble vest, dragon claw and warmog’s.

BLITZCRANK

TFT Blitzcrank is a Chrono / Brawler 2 cost unit with the same ability he used back in set 1 – it allows him to grab an enemy from the opposite side of the board.

Blitzcrank is a unit that did well every set so far, you can do well every set too if you understand the game on a deeper level with a TFT Coach 👈

What items for TFT Blitzcrank?

  • Dragon’s Claw (Negatron Cloak + Negatron Cloak)
  • Warmog’s Armor  (Giant’s Belt + Giant’s Belt)
  • Zephyr’s (Giant Belt + Negatron Cloak)

Why these items for TFT Blitzcrank?

Blitzcrank makes good use of those items because it help him survive for longer, and Zephyr allows him to CC the unit that the enemy uses to bait his grab, allowing him to grab the carry he wants to grab.

VI

TFT Vi is a 3 cost unit that’s a Cybernetic and a Brawler that can survive a lot and CC the furthest standing enemy with her ultimate, dealing damage and knocking them up.

What items for TFT Vi?

  • Thief’s Glove (Sparring Glove + Sparring Glove)
  • Guardian Angel (B.F. Sword + Chain Vest)
  • Ionic Spark (Negatron Cloak + Needlessly Large Rod)

Why these items for TFT Vi?

Those items work great on Vi, as they allow her to stay on the front line for long and also help her team deal damage. That’s due to Ionic Spark’s new set 3 effect, that decreases enemy magic resistance.

ILLAOI

TFT Illaoi is the new Brawler / Battlecast unit. She’s not very powerful, but can serve as a decent starter or frontline unit in a battlecast composition. Her ultimate causes her to steal resists, potentially softening up beefy earlygame tanks.

What items for TFT Illaoi?

  • Ionic Spark (Negatron Cloak + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Guardian Angel (Chain Vest + B.F. Sword)
  • Morellonomicon (Giant Belt + Needlessly Large Rod)

Why these items for TFT Illaoi?

Illaoi should never carry items in the mid-late game, but earlier on she can act as an item holder for items such as the ones mentioned above – she has AoE ulti that’s decent for morellonomicon, and GA/Ionic Spark can potentially help her stay around.

GNAR

TFT Gnar is the strongest Brawler in the game. Gnar can be a game changing unit due to not only his powerful class – Astro, but due to the strength of his ultimate. It causes him to transform, repositioning and stunning the enemy team in the process.

What items for TFT Gnar?

  • Dragon Claw (Negatron Cloak + Negatron Cloak)
  • Bramble Vest (Chain Vest + Chain Vest)
  • Warmog’s (Giant Belt + Giant Belt)

Why these items for TFT Gnar?

Gnar is not a unit to itemize most of the time, but a decent tanky setup can prove useful to make sure he gets a proper ult before dying. He can definitely make a setup like the one above work though, as he does not require more offensive items due to his huge attack boost once transformed.

Best items for TFT Infiltrators

NOCTURNE

TFT Nocturne is a one cost infiltrator. He’s not a very strong unit, mostly used for his traits. His ultimate is a single target fear/damage over time ability that can help the player deal with ranged carries early such as Caitlyn.

What items for TFT Nocturne?

  • Infinity Edge (Sparring Glove + B.F. Sword)
  • Guardian Angel (Chain Vest + B.F. Sword)
  • Bloodthirster (B.F. Sword + Negatron Cloak)

Why these items for TFT Nocturne?

TFT Nocturne can hold those items until a better carry is found. These are an example of a decent infiltrator setup.

ZED

TFT Zed is a 2 cost Infiltrator / Rebel unit. It’s crucial to not only Rebel and Infiltrator comps, but also in Blademaster compositions, especially if the player can obtain the Blademaster Spatula. Zed steals enemy AD, becoming stronger with each hit.

What items for TFT Zed?

  • Infinity Edge (Infinity Edge + Sparring Glove)
  • Bloodthirster (B.F. Sword + Negatron Cloak)
  • Guardian Angel (B.F. Sword + Chain Vest)

Why these items for TFT Zed?

Zed is the best potential holder for Blademaster Spatula, as it allows 6 Blademasters comp to peak at level 7. If you haven’t found a Spatula, the items listed above will work perfectly well.

SHACO

TFT Shaco is a 3 cost unit that’s a Dark Star Infiltrator. His ulti allows him to crit for a extremely high damage, which you can further scale up through Crit damage improvements. He’s also used as a One-Shot monster in Dark Star comps.

What items for TFT Shaco?

  • Infinity Edge (Sparring Glove + B.F. Sword)
  • Guardian Angel (Chain Vest + B.F. Sword)
  • Bloodthirster (B.F. Sword + Negatron Cloak)

Why these items for TFT Shaco?

Let’s take a closer look. So, Infinity Edge allows Shaco to truly one shot units, by buffing his ID and crit damage. Bloodthirster allows him to fully heal up after each crit. Guardian Angel allows him to live for as long as possible, especially important in Dark Star infiltrators.

FIZZ

TFT Fizz is a 4 cost unit that’s a Mech Pilot / Infiltrator. What you want to build on him depends on whether his main purpose in the build will be to transform into a Mech, or whether he’s being played primarily as an infiltrator. His ultimate is a big AoE crowd control.

What items for TFT Fizz?

  • Spear of Shojin (B.F. Sword + Tear of the Goddess)
  • Spear of Shojin (B.F. Sword + Tear of the Goddess)
  • Guardian Angel (B.F. Sword + Chain Vest)

Why these items for TFT Fizz?

Fizz has a big mana cost, and with double Shojin and a high attack speed from infiltrator he’s able to cast his ulti a lot, crowd controling a tons of enemies with a big, 1.5s stun.

EKKO

TFT Ekko is a legendary, 5 cost unit Cybernetic / Infiltrator unit with a very unique ultimate ability. It allows him to stop time, essentially stunning every single unit on the board for a moment, during which he attacks and applies an on-hit effect to every enemy.

What items for TFT Ekko?

  • Thief’s Glove (Sparring Glove + Sparring Glove)
  • Morellonomicon (Giant Belt + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Red Buff (Giant Belt + Chain Vest)

Why these items for TFT Ekko?

Don’t build both Red buff and Morellonomicon, those effects do not stack! But his ultimate can apply either of them. Thief’s Glove is an alternative, especially since you might not be able to have many options for him in a Cybernetic team, where you want to stack your strongest items on Irelia.

Best items for TFT Sorcerers

ZOE

TFT Zoe is a 1 cost Star Guardian Sorcerer with a simple single target stun ability that always targets the enemy with the highest health. She’s not very strong, but she’s a staple in any star guardian TFT team comp.

What items for TFT Zoe?

  • Spear of Shojin (Tear of the Goddess + B.F. Sword)
  • Rabaddon’s Deathcap (Needlessly Large Rod + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Jewelled Gauntlet (Needlessly Large Rod + Sparring Glove)

Why these items for TFT Zoe?

Zoe has a fairly high mana cost, making Spear of Shojin one of the best TFT item on her and similiar heroes. Also, she cannot really  apply effects like Morellonomicon well since she’s a single target unit, so simple damage boosting items would work most properly.

TWISTED FATE

TFT Twisted Fate is a 1 cost Chrono / Sorcerer with an ability that’s essentially League of Legends TF’s Q. It’s a long range damaging spell that covers a cone in front of him.

What items for TFT Twisted Fate?

  • Stattik Shiv (Recurve Bow + Tear of the Goddess)
  • Guinsoo’s Rageblade (Recurve Bow + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Morellonomicon (Giant Belt + Needlessly Large Rod)

Why these items for TFT Twisted Fate?

Twisted Fate is not a very good item holder, so if you put items on him you should do it assuming you will soon sell him to get them back. Those items above synergise well with all his kit, and morellonomicon works well because he’s one of the niche early game units that can actually apply it in an AoE early game.

AHRI

TFT Ahri is a powerful 2 cost Star Guardian / Sorcerer, a staple in any Star Guardian TFT team comp and a potential carry, along with Syndra. Her ultimate deals both Magic and True damage, 50-50, mimicing her League of Legends Q equivalent.

Ahri is a unit that scales well with items, and TFT players scale their abilities well with some Challenger TFT Coaching 👈

What items for TFT Ahri?

  • Blue Buff (Tear of the Goddess + Tear of the Goddess)
  • Rabaddon’s Deathcap (Needlessly Large Rod + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Jewelled Gauntlet (Sparring Glove + Needlessly Large Rod)

Why these items for TFT Ahri?

Ahri is mostly a damage dealer, when she’s dealing damage her goal is not to apply morellonomicon as with low damage, high AoE carries but to best scale her already high damage, low mana ability. To do that, Blue Buff along with her star guardian trait allows her to spam her ability that you further scale with aggressive AP items.

ANNIE

TFT Annie is a 2 cost Mech Pilot / Sorcerer unit whose ultimate is a mixture of a defensive and offensive utility. She damages enemy units while shielding herself at the same time. Most TFT team comps that utilise Annie use her as a part of the Mech Pilot though, so the items you put on her might be influenced by that.

What items for TFT Annie?

  • Dragon’s Claw (Negatron Cloak + Negatron Cloak)
  • Guardian’s Angel (B.F. Sword + Chain Vest)
  • Titan’s Resolve (Recurve Bow + Chain Vest)

Why these items for TFT Annie?

Items I’ve suggested for Annie above are items that would shine in a Mech Pilot team comp, abusing the powerful Garen Mech.

SYNDRA

TFT Syndra is a powerhouse of a unit, a 3 cost Star Guardian / Sorcerer and a staple in any Star Guardian team comp. Her ultimate deals a lot of damage, more with every single cast and if you itemize her accordingly, she will not only deal a lot of damage but also give a lot of utility through Star Guardian trait to her team.

What items for TFT Syndra?

  • Blue Buff (Tear of the Goddess + Tear of the Goddess)
  • Rabaddon’s Deathcap (Needlessly Large Rod + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Jewelled Gauntlet (Needlessly Large Rod + Sparring Glove)

Why these items for TFT Syndra?

Syndra is powerful hero that can work with many AP/mana items. Blue Buff work the best though, but you can also add Chalice of Fervor to further boost her teammates. Then, best you can do is scale her AP so she can wreck enemy carries and tanks alike.

VIKTOR

TFT Viktor is a 4 cost Battlecast / Sorcerer, a powerful wizard with one of the highest damage burst spells in the game. Viktor does not provide any utility other than enemy obliteration, so he should be itemized accordingly.

What items for TFT Viktor?

  • Blue Buff (Tear of the Goddess + Tear of the Goddess)
  • Rabaddon’s Deathcap (Needlessly Large Rod + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Jewelled Gauntlet (Needlessly Large Rod + Sparring Glove)

Why these items for TFT Viktor?

Viktor can use those items to one-shot his enemies. He’s a viable holder for most AP/mana related items, those suggested above are just an example of great offensive kit.

XERATH

Xerath is a 5 cost Dark Star / Sorcerer, a powerful mage that scales with AP and Attack Speed. He has everything – high range, AoE damage, stuns and good synergies. He can carry your fights on his own when positioned and itemised well.

What items for TFT Xerath?

  • Guinsoo’s Rageblade (Recurve Bow + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Rabaddon’s Deathcap (Needlessly Large Rod + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Quicksilver (Negatron Cloak + Sparring Glove)

Why these items for TFT Xerath?

As said before, Xerath’s ultimate ability scales with both ability power and attack speed, making Guinsoo’s the most valuable Xerath TFT item. He can do well with any combination of 2 ability power and 1 defensive items though.

Best items for TFT Starship & Paragon

Aurelion Sol

TFT Aurelion Sol is one of the most unique units in the game, being a 5 cost legendary unit and the only Starship in the game. He does not attack, he only flies over the board a bit like set 2 Singed, while releasing damaging drones that scale with his ability power. Currently he’s used less as the primary damage dealing unit and more as a leveled up mana reaver, stealing mana from everyone.

What items for TFT Aurelion Sol?

  • Dragon Claw (Negatron Cloak + Negatron Cloak)
  • Bramble Vest (Chain Vest + Chain Vest)
  • Warmog’s (Giant Belt + Giant Belt)

Why these items for TFT Aurelion Sol?

Aurelion Sol is straight forward to itemize. GA is awkward on him, attack items do not work on him since he does not attack, best you can do is utilize his mana stealing trait.

JANNA

TFT Janna is a fascinating unit. She’s a 5 cost Star Guardian, but also a Paragon – the newest addition of set 3.5. Paragon trait causes her entire team to deal magic damage, serving as a potential counter to armour heavy builds. It also causes all of the star guardians to deal true damage with their auto attacks. Her ultimate is a map wide CC and a powerful attack speed buff, making her the strongest supporting unit ever added into the game.

What items for TFT Janna?

  • Morellonomicon (Giant Belt + Needlessly Large Rod)
  • Spear of Sho’jin (Tear of the Goddess + B.F. Sword)
  • Quicksilver (Negatron Cloak + Sparring Glove)

Why these items for TFT Janna?

Janna works wonderfuly with a multitude of items, Spear of Sho’jin most likely being the best one, as her attack speed becomes incredible once she casted her first ult. Morellonomicon works well due to her ultimate being nearly map wide, while Quicksilver is there to make sure she gets to cast her ability.
